Hoy viernes hay convocadas en Egipto manifestaciones después de la primera plegaria. The Atlantic tiene traducciones al inglés de los panfletos con las instrucciones para manifestantes. No contento con prohibir todas las manifestaciones, el gobierno egipcio está bloqueando las conexiones internacionales de Internet para todo el país (incluyendo al propio gobierno), y también la mensajería móvil y algunos operadores de teléfono móvil como Vodafone. Curiosamente el gobierno estadounidense, que tiene en Egipto uno de sus principales aliados en la zona, ha declarado lo que El País titula su apoyo a las propuestas como expresión de un islam democrático. El New York Times revela cómo documentos diplomáticos filtrados por Wikileaks muestran que los Estados Unidos hicieron débiles intentos de defender los derechos humanos en Egipto, pero evitaron confrontaciones públicas con Mubarak.

Curiously, the US government, which has one of its main allies in the area in Egypt, has declared what El País calls its support for the proposals as an expression of a democratic Islam. The New York Times reveals how diplomatic documents leaked by Wikileaks show that the United States made weak attempts to defend human rights in Egypt, but avoided public confrontations with Mubarak. The government wants to censor technology over there but its having a very hard time struggling with it due to the amount of people there on mobile phones.
